Yes friends, we finally have a new car! It is technically a used car, but for us, it is brand spanking new!
For those of you that live near us, you have seen our battle with cars, and not having air conditioning for years. We would just tough it out prior to this point, but with Team Oakley being pregnant (hooray!) we decided to cash in our three cars (two running, two without air) for one family car.
We had not been car shopping in...years! We looked around a bit, then one saturday set out to see what we could find. We had a set amount that we were willing to spend, and shortly after looking we found out that the small amount we had saved up was not what dealers were willing to work with. We heard countless salesmen say "well that is a good down payment", or "that is why we have financing".....it was very disheartening. One salesman showed us the cheapest car on the lot, but it was still three times as much as we said we wanted to spend!!! After many hours of driving around middle TN and walking around the car lots in 100+ degree weather while six months pregnant, we were ready to call it quits.
One of the last places we stopped had mentioned that they try to sell cars as good as "Sloan Ford". That was enough for us to try one last place, and we headed south to Sloan Ford. We were not expecting to find anything, but we were going to take one last shot.
We parked on the lot and someone immediately came out to greet us. We told him our price range, and he smiled and said that he could work with that, and invited us to have some water inside, in the air conditioning (a small gesture that we had not seen that whole day). When we were inside the salesman congratulated us on the baby, and expressed how excited he was for us, and how motivated he now was to find us a suitable car for our growing family. He was so kind and warm. Within minuets he had a list of cars in our price range, and one that he thought was the best for us. It was listed out of what we had in cash, but he said he could but it down to fit in our range (including tax and registration!).
He brought around the car he thought was best, and got us in it for a test drive. After that test drive we knew it was perfect for us. It was a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. A small SUV with the perfect amount of room for a baby seat and stroller, and cool air blowing out the vents!
We left knowing we loved the car, but wanted to talk about it some before jumping on it. After the weekend we knew it was for us! We got some help from Beka's mom and Steve Pop, and had the cash from selling our other cars, and Michael went down to get it!
So we are now VERY proud owners of our new family car!!!!!
It lets Beka not bake the baby inside of her, and Michael can rest easy when she travels out of town now that she has a reliable ride.
We are stoked to have it! It was quite a road to get here, but here we are! and so happy!
Thanks for sharing our adventure!
Team Oakley
