Hello Friends! We are excited to share with you our trip to the TN Ren Faire! It is held about 20 mins north from spring hill (where we live) on priveate property with a beautiful castle (which we were about 30 mins late for the last tour :( but we still had a blast!) The property is so beautiful.
We went with our friends Katie and Brian Jones. And we met a really cool character. His costume was flawless! he had turtle shells for shoulder pads and his hair and makeup were so cool. and he drank out of this wooden carved mug. Michael loved it. We searched all over for it in the faire, but no one sold them.
When we were taking a photo with him, he started going though my hair to get my sunglasses, and scared me. He was a very nice character.
We also got to see a jousting match with all the bells and whistles. These were professionals, so don't try this at home :) At the bottom of the page is a video of one of the knights singing his decree rather than saying it. He was my favorite (the blue flag). He got owned in the joust though.
There were some cool animals as well. You could ride the camels (it wore them out :) and there were HUGE birds that looked like they were about to kill at any minute...
There were plenty of vendors to steal our attention. They had all sorts of Ren gear. Very cool stuff. Michael and Brian especially liked the weapons.
There were many games to try, but the one that sucked Michael in most was called 'Jacob's ladder'. It was a rope ladder that you pay two dollars to try and climb to the top. If you get your feet on the last wrung, you get ten dollars. Michael spent 8$ to no success. But he did have so much fun trying. There are some fun videos on the bottom of the screen to watch. It captures all his tries, and some of the other vendors trying to coach him up it.
Right across from the impossible-money-sucking-ladder-of-crushed-hope was a vendor who made hand crafted authentic leather boots. Michael tried some on for fun and really thought they were cool.
There were so many fun characters to see there. Some were part of the fun, some were just visitors of the faire who dressed up. There was no lack of fun people watching.
Brian tried his hand at axe throwing. He did stick one, but said it was much harder, and they were much heavier than they seem.
Michael was talking to a friend of his that had gone to the faire the weekend before, and said "you have to try a scotch egg!" so michael, in the spirit of adventure and "I'll try anything once" tried it. He said it was not so bad. A Scotch egg consists of a de-shelled hard-boiled egg, wrapped in a sausage meat mixture, coated in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried.
Thats us. We love each other :)
There were other .....interesting things to eat there as well. We did not partake, other than michael and the egg, but it was fun to see all the choices and interesting fried delicacies
This may have been the cutest family there. The little curly cue even had a wooden cup on his belt!
This wizard was so fun. We are not sure if he was a hired character of not, but he was always wondering slowly around. He would be part of the back ground that you do not really notice until he slightly moved. It was very fun to see him pop up around the faire.
There was a whole row of weaponry. You could throw starts, axes, spears, anything that could really do damage.
Other fun booths were glass blowing, fun tricks and trades, and some side shows as well.
And there were instraments that were very cool to watch. I think there is a video of that as well.
.... And there were fairies.... boys fairies, girl fairies, cute fairies, nice fairies, and weird fairies....they were everywhere.
And then there are videos! there is one we saw of a human chess match, and many of michael and that darn latter! We had so much fun here, and we hope you enjoyed our adventure!
