1/10/13-1/14/13 Surprise weekend to SD!

WHEW! the last new days have been a whirl wind!!!!

S0 on saturday Beka started feeling more pain than usual. She has endometriosis, so she has a level 2-4 pain all the time, everyday. But on Saturday it got up to a 6. Weird, but not uncommon. So she went on working as usual.

Then on tuesday, the pain shot up to an 8 in two hours! Luckily she was at home that day, and she could call Michael to come to her rescue. The pain was awful! Michael took care of Emery and they made some calls to make sure that nothing was up.

Because the pain did not decrease, Beka and Michael went into the ER on thursday to make sure nothing major was going wrong.

Beka and Michael made a quick call to a close friend to watch Emery. This friend has three boys of her own, and gladly took on one more.

Emery adapted well with his new brothers. He even completely continued his potty training regimen!

After many blood, urine, CT and other tests in the ER, it was concluded that Beka's already bad case of Endometriosis had gotten worse, causing the growing pain. Beka was discharged to bed rest for the next few days. They picked up Emery relieved with the news, but saddened that it was more of the same. Emery was happy to see them, and well taken care of that day. THANK JESUS!

They went home and settled Beka to bed on her heating pad with some pain meds. She soon after got a message from her big sister saying that she was flying Beka to San Diego!

Beka had kept her sister, Rochelle, abreast with the hospital and pain information. Rochelle was having her 30th birthday party that weekend, and felt a piece missing without Beka and Emery there to celebrate her. Now that Beka was confined to rest at home, it was the perfect opportunity to get her to SD. Rochelle graciously booked tickets for the next day, Thursday, and off Beka and Emery were to the west coast! If she was going to rest all weekend, it might as well be with her siblings!

Beka and Emery were VERY excited to get on that plane. Emery was wide awake and joyful as always!

Beka, though tired and recovering from the ER ordeal the day before, was very excited too. She was doing the plane ride by herself, so that was a bit worrysome. Also the sweet nurse the night before had burst a blood vessel putting in her IV, and Beka was pretty sore carrying Emery through the airport.

But overall the feeling of love and excitement of family won out.

Emery was a gem, as usual. He and Beka spent the waiting saying hi to everyone who would pay him any attention (which, due to his cute cheeks, was almost everyone on the flight!) A sweet man at starbucks even filled Beka's waterbottle and Emery's milk cup FOR FREE! It was a good start of a great weekend.

Emery only cried a total of 10 mins the whole two flights from nashville to Texas, then to San Diego! AMAZING! He arrived in San Diego tired, due to the flight and the time difference, but happy as ever! We, with the help of Auntie Rochelle, surprised Emery's Grandma and Grand-pop, and Poppa and Mimi. There were tears and smiles and SO MUCH JOY! Emery finally ended up in bed at 11pm his time! He usually goes to bed at 6:30! What a champion!!!!!

He did wake up in the middle of the night a bit scared of his new surroundings, but Beka put him in bed with her, and they both slept in west coast bliss, cuddles near to each other.

The next day, friday, Emery and Beka woke up happy and ready to rest away the day. Emery continued his potty training routine, but was not happy at his mom taking photos of him in action. This face said it all.

The rest of the day, and the next few days were full of sibling love, and welcoming the age of the 30s for her sister, Rochelle. Beka's most happy place is with her sibs!

The fact that Emery was there made it all the more sweet. He spent some quality time with his relatives, and especially his Uncle Timmy. Emery was hesitant to remember all his relatives, but not his Uncle Timmy! It was like they had never parted.

Before his auntie's party, Emery had some cool photo opps with his favorite ladies, his mom and his aunties!

Then they all danced away the night at Auntie's Ro's Party. His Uncle Micah's DJed the party, and Emery danced like a fool! After his glory moments, he went home with his Poppa and Mimi while Beka continued to celebrate her sister till the wee hours of the night.

Emery and his Poppa slept on the floor on an air mattress like a true sleep over!

While he and his Poppa were snoring the night away, the party was alive and kickin at his Auntie Ro's! 30 is a good year!

Beka got to catch up with some fabulous friends. It was a fantastic time!

The party was one to remember! Not only was Emery with his loved ones, and Beka with her dear siblings, but we were both in SD! America's finest city! IT WAS GREAT!

Emery awoke at his Mimi and Poppa's a bit confused, but happy, none the less.

After a while Beka met up with Emery, and we both just cozied around the house. Emery got to see some other family throughout the day, and he was shower with love and gifts (no not a puppy) !

It was cold here in SD. Like really cold! Like colder than the south!

That night we got to watch the sibs play indoor. Emery liked warming up with his aunties and uncles.

Beka got to watch the game with her sibs!

Emery took turns walking around the field with whoever would accompany him!

Then other time he spent in the laps of his grandma and grand-pop, reading his Elmo books. Life is good for  Mr. Emery Allister Oakley.

After the game we had dinner with everyone, and went to bed. We were up at 4am to catch our flight back home (in which Emery was fantastic!!!).

It was a short visit, but SO FULL of love and sweet memories, celebrations, and deep happiness.

Beka and Emery are so thankful they got to come out and see family. San Diego was happy to welcome them, and Michael was glad to have them back.

Thanks to all who made this possible, and thanks for all you for reading!

Blessings!

1-7-13 the headache

If you follow our blog I am sure that you know Beka suffers from a disease called Endometriosis (http://endometriosis.org). It is a horrible auto immune and pain decease that leaves her with many bad days. What is her hope and solid rock? Her partners in life, Michael and Emery Oakley.

They are always the ones to wash dishes while she is sick, and make her tea when she needs some semblance of comfort. Emery has been sick about twice in his short life, and Michael gets sick once a year (and Beka has many years of experince to make this conclusion). The men are always the ones to take care of poor Beka.

So when Beka came home from work early one day, and found Emery asleep (nap time) and Michael in bed, she knew something was up. All Michael could get out was, "migraine, so bad....". Michael is NEVER sick. Beka was shocked to find him out of commission. She brought him some pills and water, and left him to sleep off the pain.

Emery, when he woke up, had a different mode of recovery for his sweet father. He kept asking where Daddy was, and knowing that the pills had surely kicked in, Beka let Emery find his Daddy in bed. Emery was quite concerned about his sweet father, but more excited to play with him in the big bed. He def did not respect the healing process. And so this happened:

Luckily Michael was feeling 100% before the love wrath of Emery came to surround him. Emery was so concerned, and SO EXCITED! He loves his daddy very much, if you could not tell.

Michael was up and happening within minuets of Emery's rude awakening. Thank God for modern medicine. We feel deeply for those with chronic pain conditions, especially migraines. They are awful! Unfortunately Michael got a small taste of this. Fortunately, Michael has a tiny one to help him out of it :) A tiny one with really cute, chubby cheeks.

Beka later gave Michael a taste of his favorite dinner to make up for his awful morning; Eggplant parm! But it was vegan, so Beka and Emery ate with Michael in glorious feast.

The day ended scrumptiously, but started pretty rough. We are so glad we three are headache free!

We hope you all are feeling well too!

Love
