3-22-13 Emery's 18mo check up

Emery just hit the one....AND A HALF mark! He was due for a check up, so off we went.

As we were waiting, Emery was looking sharp in his button down, jeans, and converse. And he was looking especially adorable with his new Dr. Suess backpack from his Auntie Ro.

Looking at him playing in the toy closet, we didn't see a baby anymore. We saw a toddler. It was a bit shocking to be honest. We always promised ourselves\ to live in the moment so that we do not have to mourn the past. After reminding ourselves of this, and knowing that we have, in fact, living in every moment we have been given, we smiled at seeing our lovely boy growing so well. Our hearts were full of love and thankfulness at being his parents, and being able to see his life happen right before our eyes. What a gift we have been given.

His check up went great too. He is above average in speech and learning, but we already knew that :) and he is still skinny and tall for his age, which we knew as well. He got some shots, so we got him a smoothie as a treat.

Enjoy your life. Be present. Be thankful,

Love,

Team Oakley.

3-17-13 Emery's half birthday!

Ladies and Gentleman, Emery is officially one and a half! We in team Oakley LOVE to celebrate the little things, and half birthdays are so fun! Emery's half birthday falls on St. Patricks day, so we celebrated it all! Hooray!

When you celebrate, you need cake, am I right? And in Beka style, it was a homemade vegan, green cake cut in half and decorated wonderfully.

It was not until Emery's Zizi Zonnie came over and wished Beka a happy half birthday too that she realized it was her half birthday too! She totally had not even thought about it, but DUH! They share a birthday! And they share that wonderful day with Beka's Dad (Emery's beloved Poppa). So they jumped online to skype with Poppa and share the special moment.

Then they all ate cake, watched Brave (Emery's favorite) and hung out with friends and family. They could not have asked for a better day.
Happy St. Patricks day to all, and to all who are lucky enough to be born on September 17th, happy half birthday!

Love,

Team Oakley

3-16-13 Emery's first hair cut!

Emery turns one and a half years old tomorrow! To celebrate we are taking him to get his first haircut!

When we arrived it was a scene out of finding Nemo. You know when all the fish are trying to get free, and the pelican is flying around the room and the tools are going off and the girl is screaming and the dentist is yelling....all the while there is a kid in the waiting room hearing those noises in horror that he is next to see the chaos in that room....yeah, it was like that.

There was a kid getting a hair cut, and it sounded like they were cutting off his fingers, slowly, one by one. Emery waited, patently, in pure terror.

We took the waiting time to show him all the cool things in this shop, and to take his mind off his now impending doom.

Once he was in the chair he was very unsure about this whole thing.

Then they put this weird cape thing on...

Then sweet lady gave him a toy and started the process...it was not so bad after all !

"what is she doing back there mom? do I look ok?"

Even on the parts that I know were kinda uncomfortable, Emery was a champion. He winced some, but no tears, no fuss, no problems!

Man that boy had a lot of hair!

After the process was over, Emery was as handsome as ever!!! He was showing off to everyone in the lobby.

Then, as a prize, he got a card that he puts into a machine and a toys comes out.

And he got a toy duck!!! Here is our handsome almost one and a half year old and his new toy duck! What a stud!

Because he was so good we went next door and got smoothies as a treat!

Emery was so sweet and he shared his smoothie with his new friend, Duck.

Here is the before and after! Handsome long and handsome short.

When we got home we took advantage of the lovely day and did some work on the garden.

We said hi to scrappy, longingly watching from "the inside".

Then we ate some awesome pasta for dinner! Emery likes pasta, as you can tell.

Overall, it was a great day. We hit a milestone (1st haircut), ate together, and played together. Yep, that is a good day for me!

Thanks for reading!
