Mother's day 2012

Last year team Oakley made Mother's day and Father's day as big of a deal as we could. We did not actually have Emery here yet, he was still "on the inside", but we celebrated being parents none the less.

And this year he is actually here!!! And he is AWESOME!!! Mother's day actually felt real for Beka.

Beka loves being a Mom. It is hard, and tiring, but worth all the bad for one teeny smile from her little guy. She was overwhelmed with love for her family DAYS before mother's day actually hit. No presents needed, she had all the joy she could take!

But Michael was not going to let that happen :) He had grand plans for Mother's day to celebrate his dear wife, and Emery's super Mom.  Then, like all Michael's plans, something came up to ruin them. This time, that something was Beka's immune system.

She generally has poor sick-fitting abilities, so when she is tired or worn out, she gets sick all the quicker. She works part time, is stay at home mom full time, and does all the housework, laundry, cooking, ect., so her body being worn out happens easier these days. So when the saturday before Mother's day rolls around, and she was all tissues, blankets, and couch, Michael knew that his plans had been foiled.

He was going to take her to where she was most happiest....outside. She always says "if I am sad or need some cheering up, just take me into nature". So he had planned a fun day outside with him, Emery, and a hike. However, it would have been much worse for her cold to go out, so thus his sweet attempts to woo and celebrate her were shut down. Boo to all.

So Saturday was spent on the couch, and Michael was sweet and took a more hands on roll for Emery so Beka could rest. This meant more play time for Emery....and this meant a more tired Emery.

Michael was giving Emery his bottle for the night, which Emery greatly enjoys, but because of the hard hitting play that he and dad had just gone done with, Emery was too tired to finish his bottle! This NEVER happens! He fell asleep on Michael! It was such a sweet moment.

Michael quickly put him to bed so he could get some rest. When he came back from that task, he was so excited about the gift that he had gotten Beka for Mother’s day that he had to give it to her then!

It was something that she had been eyeing for a while. It was a new pitcher for her kitchen. Beka was surprised and very happy to have a new toy!

The next morning Michael was out and about doing church things all day. Beka stayed home with Emery to “get some rest”. Yeah right. That’s a joke. Mom’s are always working, and Mother’s day was no different!

Emery is super mobile and fun and LOVES to get into everything so he can learn and discover. Beka was chasing him all day, and it was the best thing that she could have done on a Mother’s day…she was all mom, and she loved every minute of it!

Yes, if you were wondering, that is a Dino Duck. Emery puts it's head in his mouth and crawls on the floor. We are not sure why, but he sure looks cute doing it.

After Church, Beka and Michael had some fun things planned for his mom. They had sent gifts and love to Beka’s Mom and stepmom already, so while we live near Michael’s mom, we want to celebrate her in person.

Michael had been sneaky during the week and some how managed to steal all of Josie’s home movies from her house! You can see them in the Emery photos above all lined up. Emery was very curious with what these squares were.

Then we ordered all of us some pizza and spent the night deep in Josie memories. It was a very full and fun time. Beka loved to see Michael as a cute little kid, and loved even more for Josie to remember all the fun times she had on those tapes.

And Mother's day was not over yet! Emery had a gift for Mom! Michael helped him a bit, and the result was precious! Michael took some pictures of the art making process. Beka loved it!

Overall, it was a great day to celebrate the thing that is MOM, and for Beka, specifically, to bask in the miracle that is her little Emery. I know we sound like broken record, but we are SO THANKFUL to have him. We were told for so long that we could not have him, and that specifically Beka could never be pregnant or be a mom. So to become pregnant naturally, and have a health pregnancy, AND to have him arrive on her birthday! She is always overwhelmed with love and thankfulness to be a Mom. This mother’s day was no different.

Thanks for sharing in our special day!

Happy mother’s day to all the mom’s out there! We know first hand how hard you all work!!!

Love,
Team Oakley!
