The Franklin Festival! 4-29-12

Team Oakley loves our festivals! The Franklin Festival is Beka's favorite! When we found out it was coming up we were all very excited to go!

That morning Emery woke up happy as always and ready to start his day!

We all got dressed and out the door to Franklin! The traffic sometimes gets bad, and the parking can be awful, so we all set out to be patient and enjoy the process. But when we got to franklin, traffic was fine, and Michael, the parallel parking master, found a spot just fine that was not too far away. We were off to a great start!

Emery was hungry as we started our day, so he enjoyed a bottle, and he looked good while doing it!

Team Oakley was happy to be outside in the sunshine! It was a beautiful day.

As we got onto main street, where the festival takes place, we were hit by the smells of all the food being cooked. We were planning on getting lunch there, and the smells made us even hungrier, so we set out to looking for some good festival food first thing.

This is somewhat of a challenge for us.  Well, more for Beka. She has many sensitivities to food, and because of it she tries to stay away from all meat, dairy, caffeine sugars, and processed food. So, as you can imagine, if you have ever been to a fair type setting, good, clean, vegetarian food can be hard to come by.

So when we say a vegetarian gyro cart, we jumped on it (not literally, though that would have been memorable)!  This was a fail. They were overpriced, and not very good. Also, after we had ate said sub-par gyros, we walked around the festival and found a whole food type stand selling veggie wraps that were fresh and looked delish! We were so bummed, but not willing to fork over even more money. So we learned our lesson (look around the whole festival before you eat), and moved on.

Emery was eager to see all the fun things, so Beka put him in the front pack. It is like a big constant Emery hug, so she was eager to do so. After a while, though, her back said it was not a good idea (it had been acting up as of late) and into the stroller again he went.

Also, it was super sunny, and we forgot sunscreen! The stroller proved some protection, but Emery and Beka, who both suffer from being very pale, were sure to end up as fried as the food being sold there if they did not find some sunscreen stat!

So that was our next task. We went to several stores on main street, but none of them had any to sell. Beka even went all the way to the car, hoping she was smart enough to have some there, but alas, she was not. THANKFULLY there was a tent to promote a local hospital (the same hospital where Beka gave birth to Emery) and they had some! And it was free! Hooray! We all lathered up, and now we were ready to explore the festival!

We meet up with Michael’s parents, and walked up and down main street to see all there was to see! Food and crafts and vendors, oh my!

There was a local orchestra band playing on one of the stages, and Michael wanted to sit and listen. Right as we got to the seats they announced that the song they had just finished was their last L So no music for a music man like Michael. It was very sad.

But there was lots to do, so on we went. It started to get hotter as the day went on, so we kept wetting Emery’s hair and letting him drink out of Beka’s water bottle. That, mixed with the sunscreen on his head, and he was sporting one awesome baby hawk!

This photo is a funny story. There were local police on segways patrolling the festival, and Beka noticed that even their socks said police! She followed one to get this photo. Team Oakley all thought it very hilarious.

After that fun little find, we made our way to the kids area. There were lots of fun things to do, but Emery was too little for all of them (rides, bounce houses, candy, ect.). So Beka and Michael told Emery about them as we saw them, so he could be excited for when he was older. There was a petting zoo there too, so we let Emery (and Michael) look from a distance at the furry friends. They were all very hot too.

At that point, Emery had had his fill of festival fun, and so had his Nana and Pappy. So Michael’s parents took him home to have a sleep over while Beka and Michael had a date night at the festival alone.

Emery was excited to be spoiled!

Michael and Beka were excited to be on a date! This has been few and far between for them as of late, so it was very nice.

We walked and walked and talked and talked and took lots of photos of neat areas in and  around the festival.

Once the festival was winding down, we decided to head home. We stopped and got some Chinese food, and played Monopoly deal (a game Beka always keeps in her purse for such occasions) while we waited for our food.

Then we went home and watched Rango on Netflix while we ate. Yes folks, that is how Michael and Beka spend a free night together. We are wild ones J

It was such a great day, and such a wonderful adventure. We love this festival and we were so thankful that it was such a delight of a day.

Thanks for sharing it with us!

Love to all,

Team Oakley
