Cinco de Mayo! and Emery's first concert! 5-5-12

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Team Oakley is heading North to the Opry Mills mall to spend the day together. We hear that there is going to be free Josh Turner concert (Beka's fav!), so we wanted to see if Emery would last long enough for us to catch a few songs (that was the hope!).

It was a beautiful and HOT day in Nashville. The mall was crowded, and in the short walk from the car to the mall we were all drenched in sweat. Once inside we were so thankful for air conditioning!

Emery was thankful (as always) for his milk.

In the mall, we were a bit overwhelmed. This mall is HUGE, and it was the grand re-opening with a  free concert, so there was a ton of people there (it was destroyed by the floods a few years ago, and it has taken this long to get it back up and running).

Beka does not like large crowds, but we took it slow and made sure to not get caught up in the stress of it all.

What was the first thing that Michael wanted to do? Go to the all new lego store, of course!

He turned into a five year old boy and was so excited! He kept telling Emery how much fun they would have with these when he was older.

Then we traveled through the rest of the mall, taking our time to see the stores that we love, and seeing some pretty fun things.

Emery was one happy guy!

After a few hours inside it was time to get our seats for the concert. We FULLY expected to leave when Emery got fussy. It could be in five minutes, or in the middle of the concert. We had no idea. We knew he was our priority, that he is only 6 months old, and that it would be far past his bedtime when the concert was starting. So we just had to try it and see what happens.

But it was still REALLY hot outside! We were sure we would give up before the concert even started, but off we went into the heat to get a seat!

We took some grass far enough away from the stage that we could sit, and close enough that we could see. Michael and Emery surveyed our spot, and they approved :)

Now it was a waiting game. We had very few toys for Emery to play with, and instead of throwing a fit, he started to entertain himself!

We were so impressed with out little man! We love him so much.

Beka had a scarf in the bottom of the stroller, and Emery played Peek-a-boo with it for so long!

Then he ate some ice in a fruit pouch so he would stay cool. It gave Daddy a good chance to get some snuggle-playtime in.

He was adorable! We waited in the heat for about two hours before the opening act went on, and he didn't throw a fit or cry at all! He was dreamy the whole time. A model citizen :)

When the music came on he was interested at the noise, but not scared. So far so good.

At this point it was past Emery's bed time, and he was still going strong and was happy as could be! So we put him in his stroller, just in case he wanted to fall asleep during a crazy loud concert....

The sun was going down, and so was the heat. Hooray!

We ended up sitting by a cute couple who had kids that were at home with a babysitter. They were awestruck at Emery. He was so well behaved and sweet and mellow that they were astonished. He had no tears, not meltdowns, nothing. Beka and Michael were BEAMING with pride. :)

Then, the man that we were all waiting for...Mr. Josh Turner!

We loved singing along to all the songs we knew, and Beka loved hearing Michael do his Josh Turner voice during "baby lock the doors" :) That man puts on a great concert!

Midway through the concert we peeked in Emery's stroller (which we had covered with a blanket to keep some of the noise out) and HE WAS ASLEEP!!! Just like a little angel he drifted off to Josh Turner blaring in his dreams. Michael and Beka got to stay though the whole concert! Every single song! We were so impressed with our little concert going family. For Emery, because he was so adaptable, sweet, and awesome, and for us parents for going for it! We could have avoided this fun day in fear of it not working, but we went with it, and we are so glad we did. Even if it had not worked out, we still would have been proud of us for trying (but we are REALLY happy it did work out :)

After the concert there were fireworks, and Emery woke up in wonder at all the sound. Not crying, just wanted to see all the sights! There was a huge traffic jam in the parking lot, so it took us about an hour just to get out of the mall. Emery fell asleep soon after getting into the car, stayed asleep for the whole circus getting out of the parking lot, and for the hour ride home. He woke up enough at home for us to change his diaper, then went back down to sleep without even a tear! WE HAVE AN AWESOME BABY!!! I am sorry to brag (not really) but I just could not believe how great Emery was!

It was a very fun and memorable night, and we are so happy that we can share our joy with you all.

Thanks for reading about our adventure!

Love and country music,

Team Oakley
