movie night at the park 5-26-12

Good morning! Team Oakley has the WHOLE day off! It is the saturday of Memorial day weekend, and we have some fun planned over the next three days!

Emery woke up on this Saturday as silly as ever! He was showing some toe out of his jambes, and both him and mom thought it was funny.

After he was dressed, Emery played for hours in his play pen with his new sand toys. He got them as a treat the day before because we went shopping with Beka and was an angel the whole time. He had been eyeing all the summer toys in the store, and Beka wanted to spoil him. When she gave him the toys in the shopping kart, he just hugged them the whole time. He was reluctant to give them to the worker that the cash register, but he did politely when Mom asked him to. She gave them right back and he has had them by his side ever since! It was a good use of a full 1 $ :)

Beka and Michael had made plans to take Emery to a movie in the park later that evening, so Beka made dinner early so they could eat it during the film. On the menu tonight was fiesta rice casserole. There is brown rice, black beans, fresh corn, and salsa. Bake for a while and you have a great vegan and GF dish! It was super yummy too.

While the rice was cooking and Emery was playing with his new treasures, Beka set out to do a project she had been thinking of for months.

Beka and Michael had been graciously given an old kitchen table from Michael's parents. It was a good sturdy wood table, but it was a bit too plain for Beka's tastes, so she set out to change that.

First step was to sand. This was hard to do as it was SO HOT outside. Beka had to stop every few minuets to check on Emery and get a glass of ice water, so the whole process took three times as long as she was planning.

While Beka was outside, this came up on her phone....yep...it was hot.

Here is the finished product of her crafty work! This was much more up Team Oakley's design ally. The color of the flowers on the table was her inspiration.

And here is the finished product of dinner! Some cheese on top (for Michael, who is not vegan) and some homed fried tortilla strips.

After the projects and dinner was finished, we packed the car full of movie supplies, and headed to the park! We were all very excited!

Once we parked we loaded up the tank (what we call our stroller) with all the things that we "needed" to watch the movie comfortably.

Oh yeah, and we had some precious cargo :)

The park that the movie was being shown in was great. It was one we were familiar with, and had been to many times. We talked and dreamed with Emery about the things that he would do and play with and climb on when he was only big enough!

The whole community pitches in for the movies in the park, and it is all free! There were many things to do and see. Emery was too small to enjoy most of them, but we had a good time telling him what they were and how he would enjoy them later in life.

A beautiful evening was starting to unfold before us, so we picked our spot in the grass and set up camp....literally.

Well, Beka snuggled Emery while Mike set up camp.

We decided to pitch a tent so the bugs would stay away from our Emery bug. He thought it was so fun! He loved to be inside, but still be able to feel the grass on the outside of the tent. Plus it was still hot, so the tent offered some relief to the sun.

Yes, the sun was down, it was 7pm, and it was still hot. But it got cooler and cooler as the night went on.

We were VERY comfortable inside our little tent. Now we just had to wait for the movie to start.

During our wait, we ate!

And so did Emery.

After Beka and Michael ate, and Emery was still drinking his bottle, we all took some time to be silly and take photos.

After about an hour of playing in the tent, the movie finally started! It was the smurfs, and we were all really excited to see it!

We only made it about 3/4 way through the movie because Emery got really tired and could not fall asleep in the tent. So we were that awkward couple who 1. set up a tent in the park, and 2. took down the tent and left before the movie was over. It beats an unhappy baby, but it was still a bit embarrassing. We were just thankful Emery did not through a fit or anything. Whew!

So though we did not last as long as we would have liked, we were all happy to get home. We were all really tired, it was not just Emery! Once we got home we put Emery down, and he went right to sleep, then Beka and Michael went to bed too! The heat and long day wore us out!

Apparently we were not the only ones who were tired....the heat affected us all in the Oakley house :)

It was such a good day though. We had fun, and we will always remember Emery's first movie in the park. If you are in the Spring Hill area, you should come to the next movie! It is a very fun community event. If you are not in the Spring Hill area, you should see if your town does this. It was so fun!

Thanks for sharing our night with us!

Love,

Team Oakley
