zoo day 5-24-12

It's a zoo kinda day around here for Team Oakley. We packed our things, and headed out to one of our favorite places in Nashville!

Emery was excited to go, and showed us with what we call his "happy dance".

Here are the Oakley boys! Aren't they a good looking pair?

Beka took a moment to check the weather...perfect :)

Though it was not too hot, we wanted to put on a hat on Emery anyways. It was very sunny and beautiful! He also wore his "zoo outfit" from his Grandma and Grandpop (the tiger onesie). It may be the last time he can wear it. He is getting so big!

Yay for team Oakley being at the zoo on this beautiful sunshine day!

We love that we are members at the zoo. They have so many fun things to do and see here!

As we stated on the path to the animals, we took in all we could. The zoo is so pretty.

We first stopped to say hi to the blue birds. They are always the first friends we see when entering the park.

Then we watched the kids on the play place and were excited and sad for Emery to be big enough to play very soon.

Then we stopped at the table and ate our packed lunches. Yum yum!

Emery had his lunch too!

Then Michael tried to take Emery to play in the splash pad, but Emery wanted nothing to do with it.

After our failed attempts to cool him off, we put his zoo hat on, sun screened him up, and we were on our way to see more things!

The hat did not last very long :)

We went to the rain room to cool off in the mist.

Ahhh, rain room relief. Emery was not too happy about it.

Then we went to the elephants. These are Michael's favorite!

We got to the elephants just in time to see the trainers do their daily show! We waited anxiously as they, and the stars (the elephants) made their way down from the top of the hill. Michael almost exploded from excitement!

The show was great! We saw the elephants do many tricks, show off their many talents, and learned things that we never knew!

I had to add this one. When the elephant was trying to lay down, he let out the biggest, and LOUDEST elephant fart that we had ever heard (be it the ONLY elephant fart we had ever heard). We laughed like five year old kids, along with all the other five year old kids that were there.

Michael stayed awhile after the show and asked some questions to the trainers. Overall, it was an AWESOME time.

Emery was in a great mood after the show, so we continued on our way.

We went to Lorikeet landing, and we had such fun thoughts of going inside and getting fantastic pictures of the birds all over Emery!

But Emery was tired, and so were the birds. It was much less epic than we had envisioned, but still fun.

Emery likes to hang his tail out. Like a boss.

After the boring birds exhibit, we went to the dino trek! Michael had been wanting to go for months, and the exhibit was only in Nashville for a few more weeks, so we decided to go for it!

We made a smooth transition into the world of dinos with Emery by introducing him to a statue outside the dino trek. He was not into it.

This did not help matters...

Plus the dino was red hot from being out in the sun all day....then we had Emery straddle it... fails all around.

No, that is not working? Let's try putting him uncomfortably high on the dino's head....No? He is still not into it? Weird...

Ok, let's give up on trying to make Emery love a tin-buring hot-big-fake-scary dino (Emery was thankful we gave up).

After that debacle it was off to the real thing! Dino trek ho!

First robotic dino was ok. Emery had not yet formulated an onion on the situation. So far, so good.

Then this happened.

Then Emery saw this... and it was done. The water and the flesh eating shenanigans behind him clenched it...Emery did not like Dino Trek.

We quickly made our way though the rest of the exhibit, trying to avoid a melt down.

It turns out that all Emery needed in his time of terror was his mamma. Some kisses, some snuggles, and we were good to go through the rest of the dino fun.

Once out of the dino trek, we were tired, and decided to only see a few more things before we headed home. We stopped by the bathrooms and took a short break before heading on.

Someone kind saw us trying to take a family photo, so they offered to take one for us. They were SO kind that they even put their finger in the photo so we would always remember them :)

Then we went to see the Timons. They have a cool place where you can go and be a Timon by getting on their level. Michael and Emery went to explore this while Beka took video and photos.

Then it was off to the petting zoo! Michael put Emery on his shoulders for the first time, and Emery LOVED it! He had so much fun up there!

He loves his daddy, that is for sure :)

We finally made it to the petting zoo! I am not sure if Michael, Beka, or Emery was most excited to get in there with all the animals!

Emery wanted to jump and kiss all of them. We had to hold back his excitement.

After all the petting and smelly animal fun was had, we made our way out of the petting zoo. When we were leaving, Michael made a discovery...Emery had his fist freckle! He is already taking after his mamma :)

*please excuse the swoosh...I am ashamed....I know that they are ManU team shorts, but still....I am sorry.

The walk back to the car was on Dad's shoulders again, and Emery was thrilled!

Once out of the park and into his car seat, Emery could not control his sleepiness. He was out and in dream land before we exited the parking lot. Sweet little boy! That is what you get when you have a good, fun filled day at the Nashville zoo!

Thanks for coming along on our adventure! We had a great time, and loved being outside together.

Lots of Love!

Team Oakley
