1-28-13 The Chattanooga zoo!

Beka travels for work. She has been with the same company for over five years now, so Team Oakley is very used to this. Beka was ready to head to Chattanooga for an account this morning when she asked Michael if he and Emery wanted to come. We only have one car, so they would just be stuck at home anyways. Michael said no at first, then his spontaneity got the best of him. Before Beka even got her purse in the car he said "give me ten minutes!"

Michael had himself and Emery dressed, and packed for the day in minutes! Out the door we go!

We had to drop Beka's sister off on campus before we headed to Chattanooga. It was on the way, so that meant that Emery had a back seat friend for the first 45 mins of this 2 hour trip.

Emery LOVES his Nini. He could not stop holding her hand! He was all smiles and giggles.

That is, until Nini got to where she was going, and she had to get out of the car. Emery immediately started crying and calling for his Nini. It was heartbreaking!

He calmed down before too long, and fell asleep for most of the trip.

After Michael dropped Beka off at work, he had a special surprise for Emery. They went to the Chattanooga zoo! We have passes to the Nashville zoo, so Michael's ticket was half price, and Emery was free. Hooray! Emery was just a little excited.

He saw monkeys.

He saw a snake.

He saw some meerkats.

He saw a lynx.

He chased a peacock (but did not catch it).

He made a rock friend.

He made some goat friends.

He made a dog friend.

Then he got weary of the goats, they started following him.

Emery played in the dirt.

Emery got thirsty, and so did Michael. Good thing they had their matching water bottles.

Then Emery saw a Coyote.

Finally, Emery found a turtle! He has mastered saying 'Turtle' since he has two turtle night lights in his room, and a turtle bathtub toy. He was very excited to see this one.

Emery and Michael had so much fun! It was def worth the last min decision to come up. There is nothing quite like some father - son time at a zoo!

Emery had so much fun in fact, he was asleep in the car within mins!

Michael picked up Beka from work with a very sleepy guy in the back seat.

We drove for about an hour before we all got hungry. We stopped for some food, then got back on the road. Emery loved watching Elmo on Beka's phone (there is a free PBS app for that. You should def get it), and Beka and Michael spent the ride home chatting.

We all arrived home happy, full, and tired. It was a great last min trip, and we are all sure glad we made that quick decision.

Here is to being spontaneous!

May we all stay flexible. You don't know what you will miss if you don't bend.

Thanks for reading!

Love

Team Oakley
