San Diego Vaca - day 8, 9, and 10: Weekend trip to Vegas!

It is very odd for Team Oakley to think of a place such as vegas to be home, but that is how we see it. We are both from San Diego, but we began OUR life together as a married couple in Las Vegas. It was the first place we lived in together, and made our first memories in as husband and wife.

So when Beka's older sister, Rochelle, and her boyfriend, Timmy were going up there for a weekend trip to celebrate Timmy's cousin's bachelor party, we hopped in the car with them and visited our old stomping grounds (pun totally intended :).

We actually do not have many photos from this trip, as Beka's phone, which had all the fun photos, died soon after returning to TN. So you will just have to take our word for it on how much fun we had.

On friday night, when we arrived, Timmy got to spend time with his cousin, Michael played some poker, and Beka and Ro got some much needed sister time. Being so far away, Beka loves anytime that she can get with her older sister. They went shopping, saw the beautiful Bellagio gardens, and walked up and down the strip and talked, and talked, and talked. It was such a happy time for Beka to be able to do that.

When Timmy and Ro met up that night, Michael and Beka went to Beka's aunts house, where we stayed for both nights we were there. The next morning they got some famous Uncle Ralph eggs, and got to spend some time with him and Beka's cousins. When we were in Vegas, Beka's aunt, Uncle, and cousins were the only family either of us had out there. They really helped us out many times, fed us many times, and made a lonely place like vegas feel more like home. So needless to say it was a great time seeing them again and spending time with them.

Then Michael and Beka had lunch with the Pastor of their old church, Jon, and his wife, Margaret, who had become like second parents to us. They always called us their "pseudo chicks" as their own children lived in different parts of the states. After a great lunch filled with wonderful catching up, we met up with some old cast members of Michael's who were still living in Vegas, and then some of our nearest and dearest friends, Boston and Tiffany. We met Boston and Tiff in Vegas, but after getting to know them, it turned out that we were all from San Diego, and we all even went to the same high school! After that, the four of us were inseparable for the two year we lived there. That night we went to dinner with them at our very favorite sushi joint in Vegas, and then over to their house, which is in the same subdivision that we bought our house! Yep, we both bought houses in the same neighborhood, at the same time :) They are the kind of friends that you can not see for years, come back, and get along like no time at all has passed. It was so refreshing to see them, and to see that our house in vegas was still in one piece, and our renters were treating it well.

While we were out doing all of this, Ro and Timmy were at a joint Bachelor/ Bachelorette party. They lounge there were at was breathtaking!

It was poolside with all the stops!

I heard that there were many good stories about this fun poolside party, but you will have to ask Ro about that fun :)

She was so pretty in her new dress and shoes!
The next morning, Sunday, Michael woke up early and led worship at our old church where he was the youth and associate pastor before we moved out to TN. He got to see our little youth group students, who are not little any longer. I think he even said he scolded one of our "little Jr. highers" for growing up and becoming too pretty! :) Beka stayed at her Aunt's and got some good tea and Auntie time. Then we all met up and headed back to sunny San Diego. But not before stopping at Panda Express, one of the chinese places that the south does not have, to get our fill.

It was a wonderful weekend trip filled with much excitement, and good good people. It made us so thankful for all those God put into our lives while we lived out in Las Vegas. We do not know what we would have done without them, and we don't want to know. All we need to know is that we were blessed with friends, family, and house that is still standing.

Well, that was our Las Vegas adventure! Thanks for reading about it!

Until the next one,

Team Oakley.
