Anniversary 2011, part one

Anniversary, 2011 part 1

Michael and Beka are masters of marriage. Why you ask? Because we just celebrated FOUR whole years of marriage. We have learned all we need to. We can teach you all our wise ways now.

We are being totally sarcastic if you could not tell. But the one true statement in that whole first paragraph is that we just celebrated four years of marriage! It has not been all fun and games (though there have been a lot of both), but we have survived, and even thrived.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, the whole city of Nashville shut down for us! There was a parade and fireworks over the Cumberland river while a plane wrote “go team Oakley!” in cursive above the down town Music city skyline. Oh wait, you live in Nashville? You didn’t see that….ok it did not happen…. J

What did happen though, is Michael’s mom took the day off to watch Emery (something we had to force her to do…spend a whole day with a well her well behaved, adorable, smiley, first born grand son J). The first thing Michael and Beka did was…..go to the doctors. Romantic, right? Beka gets chronic sore throats and ear infections, and this year has been especially rough. Our anniversary as the only day that we could get in to see an ENT specialist and get her some relief. So off we went, wanting to tell everyone in the waiting room that it was our anniversary and make them oh and ah at us and our cuteness, but we refrained. We sat patiently in the waiting room for what seemed like forever. Words with friends and angry birds largely took up this free time. When we finally got in, it was one of those “well, lets wait it out and see” diagnosis. Awesome, thanks for playing. Maybe we will schedule our next super productive health evaluation for Christmas. How does that sound. J

After our enlightening appointment, we went home to get ready for the rest of our day, and lounged around the house for a bit. We took our time, and as we were going out the door to be super spontaneous and romantic (or so was the plan), Beka asked Michael what he wanted to do, and he replied, “Go see Emery….”. She could not be too hard on him though, she was missing her little guy too. So they went over to Nana’s house and got some snuggles in. Emery was happy to see them, and he made the day so much brighter, as he always does.

Then it was off to Franklin for a date (FINALLY!). But first we had a chiropractic adjustment. Note to self: never wear a dress to have an adjustment. You want everyone at the office to know you well….but not that well.

After that awkward appointment, we went downtown and bought tickets to see Crazy, Stupid, Love. We thought it fitting for celebrating our relationship.

The theater we were seeing it in had just been renovated. It is super old timey and has been completely redone and spruced up. It was the first time for both of us to see it in all it’s new, shiny glory.

The tickets are only 5 dollars and they play movies that had already been in theatres, but are still pretty new. Or sometimes they play classics like It’s a wonderful life and White Christmas during the holiday season. On Thursday nights (which just happened to be the night that we were going) they were running a dinner and a movie deal where you buy your ticket (again, only 5 dollars) and there are a handful of participating restaurants in walking distance that offers you discounts with proof of purchase. We chose to go to one of our favorites, Pucketts, for some good southern dining.

Beka is one who knows what she likes, and likes what she knows, so she went the veggie burger and fries that she always gets.

Michael is not that way, and likes to test his taste buds, so he went with what he thought was a thanksgiving burger  (turkey, cranberry, mashed potatoes, all in a bun). But when they brought out the food, they had brought him the wrong hamburger. IT was called the tail gate burger, and while still massive and yummy, Michael was bummed that he did not get the thanksgiving party in his mouth that he had been hoping for. After talking to the waiter and realizing we would miss the previews if they fired up the right burger, Michael graciously accepted the tailgater fury of meat and sausage.

Pucketts often supports the live music scene, and this night there was a man playing an instrument called "a chapman's stick". It was a BEAUTIFUL sounding guitar like instrument. He played some new songs, and some old standards, and it made for the most wonderful setting.

When the bill came, we got another surprise….there was no total. The waiter felt bad about not getting Michael the correct order, and the special that the theatre was running with Pucketts was buy one get one free. So though it was not what we intended, a free dinner is a free dinner. Happy anniversary to us!

We got back to the theatre just in time to see the previews (Beka’s favorite part). We ate pop corn and enjoyed our movie together.

When we got out of the theatre it was rainy and cold, and the street lights were bright and beautiful. It was a perfect scene to end a fantastic night.

We picked up our sleepy Emery Bug, and all headed home to sleep sound.

Four years full of adventure, and we are still going. We hope you have enjoyed sharing them with us this far. There will be many more to come, I assure you.

Love,

Team Oakley
