Estate sale

There are so many fun new things that we are discovering to do out here in TN. One of them has blossomed from a favorite show of ours called American Pickers. In the spirit of "picking" or "antiquing", team Oakley went to your very first Estate Sale.

We were not looking for anything specific, other than an adventure, so we had no expectations. The house was on a friend's property (that is how we heard of it) and it was beautiful!

The weather was great, and we were excited to be out and about!

The house was owned by our friend's family, so we stopped and chatted with them a bit before going inside. We did not know the women who used to live in the house, but being so connected to her family made us feel, in a way, connected to her. You can gather an idea of who a person is/was by the stuff they  collect over the years. It made us think "how would people think of us when they look at our stuff (other than broke with a baby?)"

Here are some photos of the things we found particularly intersesting.

Beka's Dad and Momma Gail were coming into town soon, so Team Oakley picked up some gifts for them while they were there.

This we got for her Dad. It is a Burl Ives record. Burl Ives looks very much like Beka's Grandpa, who died when she was 10. He has always reminded her Dad of his dad, so we thought it appropriate. Her Dad loved the gift, and the sentimental value was right on :)

Then we found this pretty vase for Momma Gail. She has many of these kinds of colored glasses in her house, so we thought we would add to her collection for her. She also loved it. Score Team Oakley.

After the estate sale we headed up to Nashville to an event a friend of ours was having. At the event we got a lesson on ribs and memphis style cooking from Smoke Et Al. They went though all the steps of before, after, and during their smoking process of their ribs. After that, we got to eat them! Well, Michael got to eat them. Beka is a vegetarian, so they kindly made her a curried veggie taco, and Emery is still a milk-a-tarian, so we accommodated him as well.

We met some fun people from all over, and a blues band played during and after dinner. It was a super fun and tasty way to end a very great day.

Thanks for sharing in our adventure!

Team Oakley
