Poppa and Mimi visit Emery!

Mimi and Poppa!

Emery has been on the outside for about two months now. He has been visited by kings and queens from a far. Obama came to meet him, as did the Dali lama. But there were two people coming this month that held a much higher ranking in the Team Oakley home than any previous person of Great stature; Poppa and Mimi were going to finally meet Emery!

Mr. Emery Oakley was born on Beka’s 25th birthday. That is pretty freaking fantastic. But wait, it gets better. Beka was born on her Dad’s birthday, which means Emery was born on his Poppa’s birthday. Oh wait….there is more. Not only do all of these amazing humans share the same calendar date, but they are all exactly 25 years apart. Beka was born on her 25th birthday, and Emery (Poppa’s first Grandchild) was born on Beka’s 25th birthday, Poppa’s 50th! September 17th is a good day in deed.

Being Poppa’s first Grandchild, and having such an amazing story of shared birthday bliss, saying that Beka’s dad was excited to meet Emery would be a gross understatement. He had waited for almost two months to come out to see him so that Team Oakley would not be inundated surrounding his birth. Plus, Emery would be more awake and smiley at two months than when he was a newborn. So even though the months apart killed him, Poppa waited patently to come out and see his first born grandson.

Beka was coming back from a doctor’s appointment when her Dad and Momma Gail got in. Michael was changing Emery’s diaper when they pulled up, so their first meeting was on the changing table. No one cared J

Upon meeting Sir Emery, Poppa exclaimed “you are even more beautiful than the pictures!” Michael captured the first meeting on video, and it is something Beka will always treasure.

After the change was complete, Poppa got to feed Emery a bottle and they stared at each other for almost an hour. They were both falling in love with the other.

Momma Gail was flooded with memories of raising her own babies, and the love that she had for Emery was already over whelming.

The Day’s of their visit were full of adventures, sight seeing, and fun. But what they filled the majority of their days with was just snuggling precious Emery.

Some highlights of their trip were going to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery (look for that blog post soon), having thanksgiving dinner (look for that blog post soon), and taking Beka and Michael out to eat.

Here are the photos from when we went to Pucketts:

Though it does not look like it, Michael is excited to be there. The beard covers a multitude of emotions.

Emery was glad to be there too, but he was asleep, and so dead to the world that he did not care his hat fell down.

These photos are from thanksgiving day.

Here is a video of Poppa playing with Emery on Thanksgiving day (copy and paste it into your browser).

The time seem to fly by, and before you knew it Poppa and Mimi were holding back the tears as they were saying goodbye, Beka’s Dad does not usually get emotional, but saying goodbye to Emery was very hard.  But the memories were sweet, and there is a lifetime ahead of both of them to love and spoil their sweet grandson.

It was a great visit, and we are so happy that we could share it with all of you.

Thanks for reading!

Love,
Team Oakley
