Community Easter Egg hunt! 3-23-12

Good morning! Today is a day that has had much thought and planning put into it. It is our Annual Community Easter Egg hunt! Our church puts it on every year. Beka has been on the planning committee for months, so it is exciting to see this day finally come!

Emery woke up VERY excited for the day! This is seriously how he woke up. Beka literally went into his room because she heard chirps and coos through the monitor and this is what she found. Could this boy be any better? Me thinks not.

Then it was time for some breakfast! Emery is a solid food champion now, and Beka's mother in law gifted her this wonderful baby bullet, so there is no end to the yummy and healthy food Emery can have! Hooray!

For B-fast today, Bananas!

And some to freeze for later!

When we got to the park for the hunt, it was VERY sunny out. Beka had made plans for child care for Emery during the hunt, but for the few hours before, he was her planning partner. Him and his "zoo hat" from Grandma.

Once Beka's back was about to give out from all 17 lbs of Baby Emery, into his stroller he went. It was hot out, so Beka wet his hair to keep him cool. This also made it possible for an awesome hawk to happen.

Then it was time for the festivities!!! Beka was in charge of the activities field. There were games galore for families in the community including an obstacle course, yard games, a parachute, three bounce houses, ring toss, family races, coloring, giant twister, and a toddler play area! Let the fun begin!

Oh yeah, and a petting Zoo!!!! For real! And all for free. It was so much fun!

There were two easter egg hunts going on in another field. The eggs were stuffed with all kinds of candy, gift certificates, and toys! There were also prize eggs that you can trade in for awesome gift baskets and prizes! Some as cool as brand new bikes!

And it was time for the hunt! There were so many kids there ready to find them some eggs!!!

Outside the fields there was a fire truck that kids could explore and talk to some firemen!

And hunt numero dos! We divided the kids up by age so it would be fair.

Then, what we were hoping to avoid, happened. It started POURING rain. It has done this in year's past, and it was no fun :(. We had to shut down the activities field an hour early, and Beka was the one that had to break the news to the kids. One looked at her and started pouting and screaming when she said he could not go back on the bounce house! It was no fun. At least the community got a few hours of fantastic fun in, and Beka got to ruin some kid's day, maybe year. So win win (sarcastic).

Emery took shelter in a nearby shed with his Pappy, who had kidnapped him out of Child care to take part in such a fun day.

After the rain, we got one more round of egg hunt in, then it was time for tear down. It was a great day, despite the rain, and Beka's shattering of childhood dreams, and so many kids and families had a great time celebrating easter together!

When it was time for tear down...the sun came up again! Of course :) Beka strapped Emery to her again, and he liked being close. He fell fast asleep, despite the work that needed to be done. Way to be lazy.....or smart. Well played Emery. :)

After all was dis-assembled and taken down, we had to unload at our church. Beka and Emery played in the nursery while Michael tended to the church sound system that was borrowed for the hunt. He is getting so mobile! It was fun to see him roll around and try to get things.

After the egg hunt, Beka and Michael were exhausted!!!! We went home to nap, but Emery had some other plans in mind. Emery wanted to play. So we Parented up, strapped on some finger puppets, and began a glorious tale of animals and fairy lands. Sometimes you don't get a break from being a parent, but we would not have it any other way.

Emery was captivated! and hungry..

What a story! He was in disbelief at our amazing ability to weave wonderful stories.

He enjoyed the play and his tasty friends. It was a great way to end a day full of family fun and festivities! We all slept VERY good that night. What a fantastic adventure it was!

Thanks for sharing it with us!

Happy Egg hunt!

Love,
Team Oakley
