Emery goes swimming for the first time! 7-7-12

If you are following our blog (thank you!) then you know that we have recently moved, that we have had a heat wave lately, and that Emery is awesome.

There is a pool in our new subdivision, and because of all the the above mentioned factors, we are going swimming!!!

We had all prepared and trained hard for this day. Beka had searched intensely for a suit that was cute, and covered her baby carnage (stretch marks), Michael shopped for some shorts that were cool, but did not look like a collage frat boy had the same ones, and we bought some little swimmer's diapers for Emery. We were VERY prepared for this joyous occasion, and had looked forward to having the time to finally take Emery swimming for the first time!

We all suited up, invited Michael's parents to come over, and we headed to our pool!

Though Emery had no idea of the joys of swimming that were waiting before him (other than LOVING baths), he seemed pretty excited for what was to come. He had a squirt toy from Nana to play with in the pool, sunscreen rubbed in (which he thinks is funny whenever we put it on him), a cool hat, and a simmer diaper. He was ready.

Team Oakley was so happy to get out of the heat of the day! Whew!

Once we got to the pool, we unloaded, and hopped right in! They have the big pool, which felt great, but we stayed mostly in the kiddy pool, which is a bout a foot and a half deep. Emery is big enough to stand, but not big enough to sit yet. Beka was pretty nervous about having him the the water. She cannot swim well herself, so having her sweet bundle of baby love in there scared her a bit. Michael swore that we should dunk Emery's head to get him used to the water....Beka obviously objected. But after some gentle prodding, we agreed that it would be best, and Emery was a champ about it! He did not mind it, and recovered great! It was a relief to Beka that he was not as fragile as she thought in the water. After that trial period, it was all play for the rest of the day!!!

We splished, we splashed, and we had so much fun!!! Emery was like a fish, and loved every second of it! He waved to everyone who came near to the kiddy pool, and loved seeing kids around his age. We took lots of photos and left with so many memories of this first for Emery.

It was such a great day, and we were so thankful for the relief from the sun. It was an awesome time, and we are definitely going to do this as much as we can.

Thanks for sharing in our adventure!

Love,

Team Oakley
