We Moved! 6-9-12

If you asked a normal, seeming sane human being what their hobbies were, I doubt you could hear "moving". That is because it bites. Hard.

It makes you tired, sore, and cranky. So when Team Oakley set out to move in June, we knew what was up against us.

Beka's sister is moving in with us soon, so we are going for something bigger. We love the house that we are in now, but it is time to say goodbye.

And though we were not looking forward to the prospect of moving, we were determined to do it with a well organized smile, and a good attitude.

Emery didn't mind the move. In fact, he thought we got him lots of new toys...boxes!!!!

Beka would often find evidence of his playing :)

Emery also learned how to have a good time int he midst of all the laundry....literally!

There was much packing, sorting, and waiting for the day we get to move. We had found a house that some friends of ours wanted to rent us, and it fit all of our needs. We just had to wait for the timing to work out with them moving out, the house getting cleaned, and for everything to be switched over in our names. It seems like we lived in the middle of box town forever, ready and packed. Then, Finally, Beka got this glorious text:

Hooray!!!!! It is time! We all packed in the car to see our new digs! Twas a happy, happy day!

And here it is! Our new place, all shiny and clean!

This is the kitchen, looking from the living room. The downstairs has a great open floor plan.

A fireplace!

Storage under the stairs, which will be Michael's office (small, but with an organizer as skilled as Beka, it will be more than enough room!)

Open area from the garage entrance to the living room. This will be Beka's office area.

Closet off the hall that will house Beka's fabrics.

Downstairs half bath. In the old house we had one bathroom, so guests and Team Oakley alike would have to fight for privacy. This new house has two and a half baths, so Team Oakley is VERY happy. Plus the owners of the home had just recently painted, and all the colors were awesome! They said we could change them, but why would we!?!

This is the living room, looking from the kitchen. Michael hit his head on that hanging light within hours of moving in.

We have a great back yard, that comes with a great patio set.

Our kitchen close up. Great Cherry cabs, black appliances, and a dishwasher!

There is a HUGE pantry in the kitchen! This was lacking in the old house, and we were having to use the laundry room to store our food!

Upstairs, we took Emery to his room, and he was very excited. Our old house was one level, so when E went to bed, we had to make sure to keep the noise down. But now, we can party, like we do, and not worry about waking him.

The paint is a dark grey, and it looks fab against his Dr. Seuss themed items.

This closet is MUCH bigger than his other one. Good thing too, that boy is spoiled!

Upstairs has a full bath for Emery and Roxanne (when she moves in).

The other bedroom upstairs, that will be Roxanne's, is HUGE! It's got a great nook in it, and a big closet.

We have a HUGE laundry room.

And that laundry room has some great built in storage!

Then we get to the master bedroom (cue angels singing).

Our room is HUUUUGGGEEEE! We joke that it is the size of our entire old house! The paint is a green blue that we just love, and it has a HUGE walk in closet, and great master bath! DREAMY!

We could NOT be happier with where we are moving to. We all had our favorite parts, but Emery liked the carpet. We thought he didn't know how to crawl yet, because he would only scoot on our laminate floors in the old house. But we got him on this carpet, and off he went! He just needed something soft on his little baby knees.

After our visit to our new place, the moving began! We had LOTS of help, and we got it all moved in just about one day! One long, exhausting, sore day.

We wiped Emery out! I am not sure what happened to his pants, but this is a good depiction of how we all felt after the move.

Once we were moved, then we had to unpack. Emery liked this process as well. More boxes!

Emery also liked to wrestle dad on the new carpet. He is getting pretty strong.

"I won, Mom!"

After the unpacking was done, there was still a large task in front of us....cleaning the old house. It was small, and we took real good care of it, but we REALLY wanted our deposit back. We called some of our friends to help, gathered our supplies, fueled up on tea, and off we went!

And the great news is, we got our whole deposit back!!!! Every cent of it! We are so thankful of everyone who helped us do that!

After the house was cleaned, all of our things were packed and moved, and we were about to turn in our keys, we got kind of emotional about leaving our sweet little house. It has been very good to us, and we greatly enjoyed living there.

It had a great back yard that Michael HATED to mow, but Beka loved to walk in with Emery.

There was a giant tree in the front and side yards that would turn all kinds of wonderful colors as the seasons progressed.

It was small, but so cozy. This is the house that we found out we were pregnant in, and that we brought Emery home to. We stayed up many nights with a newborn, and had so many fun memories of games nights, parties, youth group meetings, and friends. Many feet had walked those floors, and we are thankful for all it let us do from entertaining, to hosting, to relaxing.

We know we are moving up, but it was still hard to say goodbye to a house that we were so thankful for. We hope whoever gets to live in our little 'Belle' house next takes good care of it! We will miss this place :)

Now, all that is left in our move process is to...relax. Roxanne will be moving in in a few weeks, and life will get busy very soon. But for now, we settle in.

Scrappy had no trouble doing this.

Silver was doing ok as well...

Michael, he was relaxing too. We all worked very hard the last few days, and we were sure glad to unwind and catch some Zs.

Happy move to us!

And again, THANK THANK THANK YOU to everyone who was able to help us move. We really don't know what we would have done without you all! Tis so sweet to have good people in your life. You know who you are. Thank you.

Love,
Team Oakley
